This is a nice little canister with raised wings and skull design on the front, and a heavy filligree design around the body, with a nicely defined skull serving as a knob on the lid. I have it sitting next to other black items of mine and this is brown/black, not truly black. It looks black if you have nothing black sitting next to it. As another reviewer stated, it needed to have a rubber seal on the lid. It clanks against the jar badly if you aren't careful, and there will be no airtight seal, if that's a factor for you. Also, the skull is not centered so that it faces forward directly over the wings and skull below it (not on mine anyway). I cant help but notice things like that.....
