Q: how do sharpen sirated knives

A: To sharpen non-electric serrated knives, use only the slots in Stage 2 and only sharpen the smooth side of the knife blade (the side without the grooves). Draw the knife through the slots using very little pressure. Note: Each time the knife is sharpened, a portion of the serration is being removed. Over a long period of time, the serration on the knife may be completely removed and you may have a knife blade similar to a utility knife. Motor seems underpowered as it is easy to bog it down. Knives are sharper. Directions regarding which way to lean the knife during sharpening should be more clear.

After reading the instructions I started sharpening several long-bladed knives with no problems. I had to redo two of the knives to achieve the sharpness because they were very dull from past use. I then sharpened all of the smaller bladed knives, again with no problems. Based on performance and price I would highly recommend this sharpener.

I bought one of these about six or seven years ago and I’ve been so happy with it that I bought a second one to put into my other kitchen. I’ve also been gifting them as part of wedding gifts for the last few years and I’ve gotten nothing but positive feedback back. Referring to the one star review: I’ve never had a problem with the motors being under powered nor is there an issue with the angle of the stones. I’m a caterer and meat processor and have no fear of sharpening my high quality knives in this unit.

I purchased this item to sharpen the knifes at my restaurant. I am thoroughly pleased with this it. It all comes down to following the directions. My knifes went from a little dull to razor sharp in seconds rather than the half an hour. I used to spend sharping them.

REALLY nice to have sharp knives again! Works great, easy to use and makes life much better for my bum shoulder. The knives I sharpened are cheap and are now doing a great job cutting up vegetables and cheese. Wish I had bought it years ago.

The motor is so whimpy that the "stone" stops if you put pressure on the knife. The sharpening angle is not correct, it should be 15 degrees.. The "stone" removes far too much blade. Do not buy this, or if you do, don't use it on good, aka expensive, knives.
